Great story! I quit my safe and well-paid corporate job two years ago (at 47) to build a startup, which I am still working on. I could not have done this sooner, because it is built on the knowledge I have built over many years. My fellow co-founders have similar stories. There is a lot of risk and hard work involved for sure, but we are learning so much about ourselves and developing new skills, that even if we should fail in this venture we will come out stronger. It does indeed require a lot of support from friends and family and many habits will have to change. From the outside it seems like a lot of sacrifices. From the inside it feels like getting to the core of what is really important and throwing away all the dead-weight. Apart from experience one of the advantages that people with long careers behind them have is a huge network. There is plenty of help to be found if you reach out. So indeed the question to ask yourself is “if not now, then when?”.
